Before we begin talking about this beautiful Byron White Courthouse wedding, let me introduce you to this amazing couple. Shannon and Austin’s story began in 2018 when they met at work as new college hires. What started as a friendship quickly turned into something more, and a few years later, Austin proposed on their front porch. One especially sweet detail? He made sure to propose in front of their Ring doorbell camera—so they now have a video recording of the entire proposal to look back on. It was a thoughtful and meaningful way to mark the beginning of the next chapter in their love story.
Their day in Denver was just as intentional and heartfelt, with close family, beautiful weather, and the perfect spot to say “I do.” Although Shannon and Austin don’t currently live in Colorado, they knew they wanted to have an intimate wedding ceremony in the Denver area. That’s where I came in—to help them find the perfect place to exchange their vows. Denver offers several great options for small ceremonies, but one key thing to keep in mind is that not all public spaces are open for weddings without permission. Many spots require advance approval or special permits, especially for anything involving photography or a group gathering.
One of the locations I recommended was Byron White Courthouse. It’s a beautiful and elegant building right in downtown Denver, and when Shannon and Austin saw photos of the space, they immediately fell in love with the classic architecture and timeless backdrop. We looked into the logistics, secured the proper permissions, and began planning for a simple, heartfelt ceremony right outside the courthouse.
Their wedding day arrived with a little bit of uncertainty weather-wise. A few clouds rolled in and there were moments where it looked like it might rain—but we ended up getting incredibly lucky. The skies held, and we were treated to soft, even light thanks to the light cloud cover. The temperature was perfect—not too hot and not too chilly—making for an ideal outdoor ceremony experience.
The ceremony itself was extra meaningful because Shannon’s sister, Natalie, officiated. I always love when family members take on the role of officiant—it adds such a personal touch to the day. There’s something so special about hearing someone who truly knows the couple speak about their love, commitment, and journey together. Natalie did a beautiful job leading the ceremony, and there were plenty of joyful tears from both the couple and their families. It was clear how much love and care went into every part of the day.
The guest list for the ceremony was intentionally kept small, with only close family members in attendance. The more intimate setting allowed Shannon and Austin to focus on what mattered most: the vows they were making to each other. And with the classic stone columns of the courthouse behind them and their loved ones standing nearby, it felt like the perfect spot to say “I do.”
Later that evening, after their Byron White Courthouse wedding, the celebration continued at Yardbird, a stylish restaurant in Denver. Shannon and Austin invited their extended family and friends—many of whom had traveled from out of state—to join them there for a reception filled with love, laughter, and so much joy. The energy in the room was infectious. It was one of those events where you could just feel the happiness radiating from every table. Guests greeted each other with hugs and excitement, some reuniting after years apart, and others meeting for the first time.
As a photographer, it’s always such a treat to capture moments like these—not just the formal portraits or first dances, but the candid joy, the in-between moments, the shared laughter. Shannon and Austin’s reception was full of those. Whether it was someone clinking glasses during a toast, dancing to a favorite song, or simply catching up over dinner, every moment felt genuine and full of love.
One thing I especially appreciated about this day was how thoughtful Shannon and Austin were in planning every detail. From choosing a courthouse location that meant something to them, to including family in meaningful ways, to ensuring their out-of-town guests had a space to celebrate—it all reflected who they are as a couple. Intentional, caring, and grounded in what really matters.
It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that weddings need to be huge, elaborate events, but Shannon and Austin’s day was a beautiful reminder that simplicity and intention often create the most memorable experiences. Their focus was always on connection—with each other, and with their people—and that came through in every part of the day.
As the sun began to set and the evening wound down at Yardbird, Shannon and Austin had already created a full day of memories: the meaningful vows, the loving presence of their family, and the joy of being surrounded by so many people who care about them. From the quiet, sweet start on their porch years ago, to this celebration in Denver, their love story has been full of authenticity and warmth.
I feel so honored to have been a small part of this chapter in their story. Helping them plan to get married and have a Byron White Courthouse wedding, guiding them to the right locations, and capturing the moments that mattered—it’s truly why I love what I do. Congratulations, Shannon and Austin, on a beautiful wedding day and an even more beautiful beginning to married life.
